Celebrate Freedom by donating to the 9-11 Memorial Fund...

As we celebrate the 234th birthday of our nation, Anne Arundel County is building a powerful reminder of how we must stand united in support of freedom. A memorial will be built in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrible attacks on this country on September 11, 2001. Please be a part of this historical effort to raise funds for this important memorial.

The Arts Council of Anne Arundel County has established a 9-11 Memorial Fund to aid in the cost of building the 9-11 Memorial to be & Police headquarters in Millersville. Groundbreaking is slated to begin immediately and completion shall be within the year.

On September 11, 2009, County Executive Leopold requested and was granted, from the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, two steel beams from the 9-11 salvaged rubble of the World Trade Center. These 2 steel beams will be the center pieces of the memorial, funded by cash and in-kind donations. The historical artifacts will honor our first responders and educate future generations about the price of freedom and the importance of vigilance.

According to County Executive Leopold, "the terrorist attacks on our country were a wake up call to every American, and this memorial will be a constant reminder of our freedom, unity and vigilance." County Executive Leopold continued by saying, "In the true spirit of community, I am asking individuals and members of the business community to come forward and support this project. People can donate their time, their money and their expertise to make this memorial something we can all be proud of. We must never forget."

According to County Fire Chief John Robert Ray, "The memorial will be a wonderful tribute not only to the people that lost their lives that day, but will also be a constant reminder of the sacrifices that the men and women of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department contend with each day, in the course of protecting the lives of others."

"This memorial will serve as a place of reflection and respect to all the victims of the worst terrorist attack to occur on United States soil. It is dedicated to all the public safety personnel who responded that day and continue to respond each day, remaining ever vigilant to protecting the liberties and freedoms of our great nation." as stated by Chief of Police Colonel James Teare, Sr.
